American Made Fabric: Finding Solutions In The Home Furnishings Industry

April 9, 2025

Unless you’ve been living under a particularly stylish rock, you know about the tariff situation that’s got everyone in the home furnishings world talking. With imported goods facing serious price hikes, things are getting… interesting, and many are sourcing “Made in the USA” products. Over the next few months (or years), our American made fabric and local textile mill could become more important than ever before.

Finding Made In America Upholstery Fabric In A Tariff Economy

Crypton has been quietly making gorgeous upholstery fabric in the USA for years. Yes, we are a global textile manufacturer, but did you know a lot of our performance fabric is woven by generational craftspeople in Western North Carolina?

When you choose textiles made in the USA, you’re not just making a smart financial decision in the current market—you’re investing in quality you can actually feel. Our upholstery fabric is crafted with care by skilled American textile workers who know their stuff.

The Cliffside, NC textile mill provides jobs to North Carolina residents and supports the local economy. That means the new sofa you purchased supports American families!

In addition to all that good stuff, shorter supply chains = happy planet + happy partners and customers. When your American made upholstery fabric doesn’t cross an ocean to reach you, that’s a win for Mother Earth (and your delivery timeline).

We sat down with Crypton’s CEO, Lance Keziah, to get his thoughts on the uncertainty of the economy and the future of the home furnishings industry. Here’s what he had to say.

“With tariffs and pricing volatility changing by the hour and the day. We know how challenging this is for our manufacturer, distributor, and retail partners. One thing that you can be confident in is that the Crypton team is standing by with global solutions. Our North Carolina weaving mill, Crypton Mills, has always offered high-quality fabrics at stable, competitive prices, with open capability to welcome new business. Our global footprint in China, Vietnam, and Europe is well established to support local production as we make every effort to be close to our customers to support their global production plans,” said Lance Keziah, Crypton CEO.

Upholstery Fabric That Is A Leader In Performance

The Advantage of American-Made Fabric with a Global Footprint

Crypton is in a unique position because it is vertically integrated in the global supply chain. In addition to our North Carolina mill, we also have textile mills located in Europe, China, and Vietnam. We are closely working with our partners to find strategic solutions to cut costs and help avoid price increases.

If you are a furniture maker, retailer, or fabric distributor doing business or based overseas, we want to help you avoid added costs due to tariffs by shipping fabric both outside and inside the United States. We are committed to finding ways to bring our upholstery fabric to your finished pieces at a competitive price, no matter where you are based.

The Bottom Line

Look, we’re not saying the current economic situation is ideal for anyone. But if there’s any silver lining to these tariffs, it’s that through research, more people are discovering the incredible quality and value of American-made products that have been here all along.
