What is Crypton Performance Fabric?
Crypton’s state-of-the-art sustainable indoor performance fabrics are designed for residential and commercial interiors and trusted by names like Arhaus, Marriott, Starbucks, and more. Our proprietary technology performs at the highest level and promises to permanently resist stains, odors, and spills, for life.
Crypton performance fabric is an engineered textile. We start with high-quality pre-tested and approved fabrics with specific fiber and construction requirements to ensure the name Crypton means consistent performance. Once approved, the fibers of these textiles are permanently transformed at a molecular level with stain and odor protection through an immersion process. Then, an impenetrable moisture barrier is added that protects the fabric from spills. All Crypton fabric, even fabric without the moisture barrier, resists the penetration of spills and stains.
Unlike many other performance fabrics, the proprietary Crypton process permanently transforms textile fibers at a molecular level. This mean that it’s a permanent part of the fabric and will never fade or peel. Once fabric becomes “Crypton-ized” it will perform for life.

No. All of the fabric we work with must meet specific fiber and construction requirements so we’re sure to deliver consistent performance. Before accepting a fabric from our partners mills for processing, samples go through a rigorous testing process in our state-of-the-art lab to ensure these requirements are met. It’s how we achieve the proven performance Crypton is known for.
No, as of October 1, 2022, all production runs of Crypton and Crypton Home Fabrics are manufactured using our PFAS free technology.

No. Crypton is third-party-certified as containing ultra-low or no VOCs. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) can be emitted from products over time into the air, adversely affecting indoor air quality. Crypton technology also does not add formaldehyde to fabrics.
Crypton has prepared with a multitude of activities to be always on the forefront of sustainability and ever changing regulations.
- Crypton has implemented the Toxnot (www.toxnot.com) system in 2018 to check all components in our supply chain.
- The system checks ingredients against all relevant state, federal and international regulatory lists and also most relevant restricted substance lists. The system keeps us updated with ever-changing regulation and it also maintains confidential information to protect our and our supplier’s intellectual property.
We are proud of the efforts we’ve taken over the years to improve our production efficiencies, which we achieve in a number of ways. We’ve taken measures to reduce water consumption and purchase renewable energy certificates. By streamlining our production line, we have been able to burn less natural gas, reduce CO2 emissions, and reduce electricity consumption. We also strive to close the loop in our industrial processes by recycling 100 percent of our fabric scraps into shoddy, and capturing waste technology to be reused in production.
Our expert chemists work to constantly improve Crypton’s formulas, and these efforts have helped us to become industry leaders on the green chemistry front. Here’s just a small glimpse of our efforts in this area of innovation:
- Crypton has eliminated all PFAS as of October 2022.
- We avoid the addition of flame retardants unless required by application codes for specific markets, and we have followed the EU’s lead in the elimination of all halogenated flame retardants in instances where flame retardants must be used to meet code.
- The Silver Ion technology that provides our anti-microbial protection has a lower water solubility than standard formulas, which means lower aquatic toxicity and higher treatability.
Crypton Outdoor fabric was developed specifically for outdoor use. It has all the features of Crypton PLUS enhanced mold and mildew resistance and UV-resistant fibers, which resist fading for at least 1000 hours.

Approved fibers are permanently transformed with stain and odor protection through an immersion process, plus an impenetrable moisture barrier that protects the fabric from spills.
Crypton’s technology is built into all of our fabrics. They are engineered with an integrated backing that will never separate, permanently enhancing the performance of the fabric. In fact, Crypton’s technology is so stable, it has been deemed a solid surface by the EPA. Unlike Crypton fabrics, laminated fabric can delaminate, creating a pocket between the surface fabric and the lining, where moisture can pool, compromising the performance of the fabric and allowing germs to grow.
Yes, the patented barrier formula is vapor-permeable, which keeps Crypton comfortable.

No. Crypton has been improving its technology for over 20 years. Our new and advanced 2.0 technology does not affect the look or feel of the fabric.
Yes. Crypton’s exceptional protection from stains, odors, moisture, and mildew makes cleaning a breeze! Liquid spills bead up and can be blotted off with a clean, dry cloth. Crypton Home Fabric utilizes the same “repel and release” technology as Crypton, but is tailored for use in the home. Each fiber of Crypton Home Fabric is encapsulated with our patented technology through an immersion process, so it never breaks down its resistance to stains, moisture, and odors.
Crypton Home Fabric is processed without an integrated moisture barrier, and should be specified in suitable environments.

Thanks to our superior performance technology, cleaning products are often not needed when tending to daily spills and messes. When they are, though, we highly recommend not using harsh aftermarket cleaners, and instead, using safe, Crypton-developed and endorsed, cleaning products like the ones you can find here.
Crypton’s Disinfectant & Deodorizer is a disinfectant, cleaner and odor eliminator. It is a registered, hospital-use quaternary disinfectant that is effective against a broad spectrum of viruses, bacteria, micro-organisms, mold, mildew, and fungus.
These are commonly referred to as “quats,” since they are quaternary ammonium compounds. Our latest advancement in disinfectant cleaners has been developed using a new kind of quaternary ammonium chloride structure that offers excellent germicidal properties and excellent cleaning. They offer a tremendous range and versatility for use. Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer is easy to use and is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including MRSA and VRE. Crypton quaternary disinfectant is effective on Crypton integrated barrier fabrics.
Yes. While most new stains come off easily with a damp cloth and water, a mild enzyme detergent, like Tide® or Dawn® dishwashing liquid, mixed with water is a very effective and safe way to clean Crypton. Yes. Crypton Wall has the same exceptional protection from stains, odors, moisture, and mildew that Crypton is known for, making cleaning a breeze! Liquid spills bead up and can be blotted off with a clean, dry cloth. Most new stains come off with a clean, damp cloth and water. They really work! Our cleaners are pH-neutral, water-based, and ready-to-use. They contain no harsh chemicals, no bleach, and no solvents. Crypton Upholstery Cleaners were made to work quickly on stains like iodine; marker; lipstick; food and beverage stains; and protein stains, like blood and grass.
Crypton Upholstery Cleaning Products are versatile. We offer two kinds of stain removers for fabric, a disinfectant and deodorizer, leather and vinyl cleaners and conditioners, an upholstery extraction cleaner concentrate, and an upholstery extraction machine named Ruby. Crypton kills common household, kitchen, and bathroom germs and viruses hard, non-porous surfaces. Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer kills, E Coli, H1N1, Hepatitis B and C, Herpes Simplex 1 and 2, HIV, Influenza, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Salmonella, MRSA, VRE, Canine Distemper, mold, mildew, and many more.
Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer is a registered, hospital-use disinfectant that works on all hard, non-porous surfaces just like any other quaternary disinfectant. The product may be used on other fabrics, too. It provides fabric freshening and deodorizing for all textiles.
The time it takes for bacterial and virucidal kills on Crypton Fabric varies just like on any hard, non-porous surfaces. Be sure to follow instructions on bottle to disinfect.
After three years of testing, submitting results, and helping to establish new protocol test procedures, the EPA recognized Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer works to “disinfect Crypton barrier fabrics.” Crypton has proven that its integrated barrier system, used in conjunction with Crypton Disinfectant & Deodorizer, kills bacteria, viruses, mold, and mildew.
Yes, Crypton’s Disinfectant & Deodorizer is effective in killing the SARS-CoV-2 – COVID-19 Virus. It is also effective against 99.9% germs and viruses.
For use as a disinfectant, virucide, deodorizer, cleaner:
- Pre-clean heavily soiled areas.
- Apply product undiluted to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces using the pump-trigger spray device, a sponge, brush, or cloth.
- For spray applications, spray 6-8 inches from the surface. (Please do not inhale the spray.)
- The surface must remain wet with the solution for 10 minutes.
- Wipe dry or allow to air dry.
